Bank Custodians and Systemic Risk System Free Samples to Students
Question: Discuss about the Bank Custodians and Systemic Risk System. Answer: Introduction: Kit is a person hailing from Chile and holding a Chilean citizenship and working in Australia. The given case study refers that Kit can be considered liable to pay according to Australian tax pay laws despite holding a Chilean citizenship. For tax consideration he is considered an Australian citizen, nevertheless being in an American company (Chow, 2015). This is because he has his permanent residence in Australia. This is made sure as he is employed in Australia and also owns a house there. Kit's salary is also credited from an Australian bank. In the same Australian bank, Kit and his wife share a joint account as well. His family, comprising of his wife and kids are residents of Australia as well. All these facts make this evident that as per the Australian Taxation law, Kit can be considered an Australian citizen (Chomik and Piggott, 2016). It is obvious from some facts that Kit has planning to settle permanently in Australia despite having some investments and settlements in Chil e. The tax Kit is liable to shall abide by the Australian Law. The residency of a taxable citizen focuses on his/her residency. As per Australian taxation law, the person himself needs to understand whether he is eligible to pay the taxes for the country or not. The taxation law treats the residents and non-residents in a different manner, so it is critical to find out if the alleged taxable person has his/her permanent owned residence in the country or not. If the residents of Australia has different incomes, are charged for each one of them as per the taxation law (Cortese, 2006). The source of income is not at all considered, whether the revenue is domestic or international if the person is an Australian citizen. There are various laws for taxation applied for several taxes imposed on the citizens. The tax collected by the government is entirely supported by this country's citizens. The income of an individual from the salary that he gets, the properties that he owns and many other valuable products constitute the basis of calculation of the net assets belonging to the individual (Danon, 2010). If the person is not an Australian resident, then these laws were his source of income is considered, does not levy on tax paying terms. The tax department can also charge a person if he/she makes an income out of different taxes. The government earns a portion of the citizen's income, property and transaction commodities as a compulsory involvement in aiding to the government's policies in building up the social and economic backbone of the country. The state, federal and local rules are followed by the taxation laws, which may be further divided into the direct and indirect tax (Engdahl, 2011). The unique character in compulsory taxes is mandatory taxes which generates only for governmental issues. The non-residents are not liable to pay Medicare taxes. The above payments are not considered as the cost of services. The payments thus taken from the citizens as the tax is not be taken as penalties as the primary goal for taxation is to work as the revenue for public. The regular payme nt of the taxes makes it easier for the government to fulfil the needs of the public since it can improve its efforts to develop the socio-economic infrastructure of the country. This, in turn, contributes to increasing the gross domestic product and hence makes the country serve its people in a better way. But Kit is an Australian citizen. That is why he is bound to pay the applicable variable taxes. His global income is considered taxable (Donald and Nicholls, 2014). Though, tax rates are better for residents than the non-residents. To testify the citizenship of a person, or verifying the residential status of the individual, the following factors must be treated as the basic concept. The reasons why a person can be treated as a resident of Australia are as follows: If the frequency of the person returning to the country is variable If the person has family or business ties in Australia If the person is accompanied by family to different trips to Australia If the individual is appointed as a regular employee in an Australian company If the person has personal belongings kept permanently in Australia If the person has belongings in the Australian banks to a certain extent If the person, being a migrant, has business established in Australia These domicile tests configure the citizenship of a person in Australia. Again if the person resides in the country fulfilling his stay for more than 183 days, i.e., more than six months, the person is considered an Australian citizen (Freebairn, 2016). Kit has been residing in the country for quite a long time, and his family has been residing in the country for more than three years in his owned residence, therefore, making him an Australian citizen. So it is evident that, even though he holds a citizenship for Chile, Kit is also liable to pay the taxes in Australia for his incomes. If any other taxes are liable to him from the country of Chile, he has to pay it accordingly, and the Australian tax paying law shall not interfere in that matter (Warren, 2010). Californian Copper Syndicate Ltd v Harris (Surveyor of Taxes) (1904) 5 TC 159 This is a case about a land acquisition that contained copper. The primary intention of a company was to get its hand on the land, though it never took out the copper. The company consequently sold the property to another organization and wished to own some shares of the company as a consideration (Freebairn, 2008). The court declared that the income the company had by selling the land was income in future since the company's intention was to make revenue by selling the land. This was a case of a company setting up a mining coal business on the property the company had acquired. When the entire coal was taken out by the company, the company determined to sell it. Again, to make it more profitable, they decided to subdivide the land and construct roads and infrastructures over the property (Heng, Niblock and Harrison, 2015). The court detained the profits or incomes that the company had obtained by selling off the land to another organization as they only wanted to make use of the land to its best advantage. The land thus becomes a capital and the income obtained by selling the land is incomes due to capital. This case held an incident of an organization which obtained an undeveloped land at the Beach of Whit Fords. The organization took the land overlooking a beach and have the right to use it for fishing purposes. There was an offer that was too good to reject that could only be acquired if the problematic shares of the company were sold to another organization. After this was done, the new shareholders also had an intention (Ingles and Stewart, 2013). They wanted to get hold of the land. As soon as they would get a hold on the land, they had decided to subdivide the land and sell it as housing sites to gain profits from it. The taxpayers refused that the profits were usual incomes as soon as the land was subdivided and the lands were sold. But the court had decided against their favor. It was decided in the court that the taxpayers had made the land a site of land development and had set up a business and the profits are thus earned. This profits earned will be liable to be considered as regular income. The court also concluded that as soon as the land was acquired by the company of the new shareholders, it had its objective changed and now the only purpose of the land was to develop, subdivide and sell the land rather than having a non-commercial purpose (Taylor, 2011). Therefore, it had lost its value in the eyes of the court as a non-commercial site, and the incomes that had occurred due to the selling of the land gaining profits were subjected to be considered as quantifiable income which can be taxed upon. So, as per the law of taxation in Australia, the benefits thus gained by the selling of the land was to adhere as a taxable amount in the eyes of the court. Statham Anor v FC of T 89 ATC 4070 The case in discussion belongs to the income tax department. It was found that the tax assessed was adjusted in a wrong way. However, it was later found that the income of the estate was adjusted by the commissioner (Rodger, 2008). The case here was a demonstration of an incident to determine whether there is any intention of making a profit or not. It was related to the fact whether the person was about to draw profit by selling a piece of land acquired by him. The only conflict was if he was subjected to pay the taxes as per the taxation law against the profit he gained because of his income in the profits he made by selling the land (Lakshmanan, 2015). This was a case of a land containing sand and the organization that was holding the land even after complete extraction of sand from it. The company held the land and waited until the prices hiked to sell it to another taxpayer, in an attempt to increase the returns on the income by selling the land (Palat, 2003). Meanwhile, the land was kept from coming to any use for an extended period. Having sold the land afterward, the tax to be paid as a result formed the crust of the conflict. The court decided that the land was to be sold or used only for commercial purposes and not for any other purpose. The land could only be sold to a person with an intention of making if of commercial use or only to a relative of the owner. Here, in this case, there is a farmer who is questioned whether to be a taxpayer or not. The farmer was attempting to buy a stretch of land that was disputed and had issues regarding it. Finally, at the end of this deal, the land was offered to the farmer (Prince, 2012). The case mentioned here deals with the issues of two brothers owning a land. The only issue was that there were a few houses on the acquired land that had to be removed to renovate the property (Parker, 2007). The main confusion that raised due to this issue that whether the owners, in this case, the brothers, were liable to pay the taxes of any kind regarding the land. Lastly, it was decided by the court that the brothers will not be levied to paying any tax regarding the land. References Chomik, R. and Piggott, J. (2016). Pleasures of Reading free essay sample
ââ¬Å"Readingâ⬠is the activity of perusing, skimming, going over, or poring over a book. The book may be of any genre, but ââ¬Å"readingâ⬠provides great satisfaction. It is the act of construing, comprehending and perceiving the true meaning of the text. It is done for enjoyment and as a hobby. The text is made up of simple and often complex words which are a source of great satiety and magic for the reader. The selection of the books define us. They show who we really are. The true quirks and traits of a person can truly be understood by what he likes to read, as Mathew Kelly pointed out that, ââ¬Å"We become the books we read.â⬠Books are also a great source of pleasure and comfort. They wash away from our lives the constant monotony and bring excitement; they remove the dust of everyday life from our souls and replace it with thrill and exhilaration. We will write a custom essay sample on Pleasures of Reading or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page They bring newness to the world and give us a chance to imagine better. The moment we open a book and start dwelling in its world, we feel as if everything around us has ceased to exist. Reading provides us the sole mode by which we slip unconsciously, involuntarily and often helplessly into another personââ¬â¢s soul and stumble into the world of his imagination where everything has been created by him. It transports us to new places, introduces us to amazing people who lived exciting lives, they move us to HOGWARTS with J.K.ROWLING, to NARNIA with C.S.LEWIS, to BAYPORT with FRANKLIN W.DIXON, to RIVERHEIGHTS with CAROLYNE KEENE, to MAGICAL FORESTS with ENID BLYTON and to the CENTRE OF THE EARTH with JULES VERNE. These places are more than often just a figment of the writerââ¬â¢s imagination but to a reader everything about them seems real, he wish that he can be transported to the world of his dreams and live the life he wishes to live. He can visit all these places while sitt ing on a comfortable couch by the fire along with an appetizing snack. At this moment he observes that there is no pleasure like reading and eating. And the best part is that the two of them can be combined comfortably. As Jane Austen declares that, ââ¬Å"There is no enjoyment like reading.â⬠We might not notice this but we actually live the stories we are reading, each character possesses a specific voice in our head along with an appropriate appearance. In the eye of our mind we see them moving and hear them talking while we read about them. A reader lives the lives of about a thousand people before he dies but non-reader lives a single boring and monotonous life. Books are a unique source of portable magic which we can carry anywhere we want to. It helps us to enter blissful peace and assists us to learn and comprehend the secrets and hidden facts of the universe by giving our minds food for thought. Wherever we are, if we have a book with us we do not need any company. We can just sink into the pages and be really happy. As Elizabeth Scott observes that, ââ¬Å"I love books! I love that moment when you open one book and sink into it. You can escape from the world and sink into a story thatââ¬â¢s way more interesting than yours will ever be.â⬠Reading is dreaming with open eyes. We do not have to necessarily believe in all the fiction and magic of the books we have to know that itââ¬â¢s not true. But it does create a world of fantasy which helps to broaden our vision and increase our imagination. Even Rowling says that, ââ¬ËI donââ¬â¢t believe in the kind of magic in my books. But I do believe that something very magical can happen when you read a good book.ââ¬â¢ Reading helps to builds our personality and develops important characters and traits. When we read about certain traits we learn to like and dislike them. We even try to apply them in our personal life. It helps to provide us with good manners, strengthen our vocabulary and increase our knowledge. We can receive important information when we read a good book. There are some acts which are never wasted and always help us in one way or another.Reading is one of them. Rowling instructs us to, ââ¬ËRead as much as you can. Nothing will help u as much as reading.ââ¬â¢ When we step inside a library, the first thing we feel is the smell of old parchments, the fragrance of ink, we hear the rustle of paper and at this moment we believe that this scent of books is the best scent in the world. When we inhale deeply and browse through the different sections we experience a sense so magical that it can never be expressed in words, and magical does not merely mean supernatural or sorcerous but includes mystery, thrill, and contentment, which makes us feel wonderful and excited. When we close our eyes and simply touch a familiar book and draw its fragrance deep inside us, it is enough to make us happy and contented. Stephen King claims that, ââ¬ËBooks are a uniquely portable magic.ââ¬â¢ Reading is very necessary to keep us revived, fresh and invigorated. Reading is as necessary to mind as exercise is to our body. They revive us when we feel as if all doors of life are closed. They help us to escape our stresses and enter a new place, a different era. At these times we feel as if there is no friend as loyal as a book. We donââ¬â¢t need to confide all our secrets to it. Even then it can provide reassurance which is required very much. So, if we truly want to escape the world we open a book and use our imagination. JK ROWLING asserts that, ââ¬Å"There is always room for a story that can transport people toanother placeâ⬠If a person does not like to read books this mostly means that he has not yet found the right book to suit his taste and personality, as it is impossible for any knowledgeable person with good interests to dislike books, because good readers make much out of little and still find it short. According to JANE AUSTEN, ââ¬Å"If a book is well written I always find it shortâ⬠Sometimes there are declarations truths and facts which cannot be explained in normal writing but a fictious book aptly explains them, with such subtlety that the reader hardly notices that he has understood them. And they become part of his life without his observing the change. RALPH WALDO EMERSON insists that, ââ¬Å"Fiction reveals the truth that reality obscuresâ⬠We do not need to understand philosophy, learn a special skill or know an art to recognize a good book nor do we need to search hard for it, we know when we have a good book we become absorbed and totally engrossed in it. When we turn the last page and feel that we have lost a close friend. As if something very important has been eradicated, lost or removed. We feel a strange emptiness and hollowness inside us and we yearn for more. We know it is a good book when we learn to laugh and cry with it, which leaves us emotional for days and makes tears fall down our cheeks. Which makes us cry and feel joyful. In short, a book a day keeps reality away. We should read good, interesting and useful literature which proves fruitful and helps us in our lives. But we should also exert caution and be careful. We should not read so much that our minds are boggled, thinking becomes clouded, our eyes become weak, we get to wear spectacles, our work is left pending and we become total BIBLIOBIBULIS (people who read too much) BOOKS are keys to wisdomââ¬â¢s treasures BOOKS are gates to lands of pleasures BOOKS are paths that upward lead BOOKS are friends, come let us read!

To get a clearer picture of the size and popularity of sport in the I-J, here are some facts and figures:- The sports sector accounts for around 2% of all people that are in employment within the I-J (around 550,00 people) Football is the most popular sport in the UK with 48,600 clubs, with over three million participants There are 2,000 tennis clubs with over two million players 43,000 working in the private sector 36,600 working in public sector leisure centers There are 3,738 public sports and leisure centers within the UK 20% of all health clubs are based in London, but key growth areas are in the North, East Anglia and Wales (Source: www. Prospectus. AC. UK) Key Jobs within the sector include: Sports development officer Sports attendant PEE teacher Sports centre management Sports ground facility worker Sports promotion Sports coach Professional sports performer Outdoor education With the Government proposing the opening of the country to all, this sector is again likely to see a growth in terms of employment. The outdoors offers a huge range of activities that cater for the novice hill walker to the expert rock climber. Not only has the opening up of the countryside given rise to a growth in the sector, but there have also been developments where people are now more willing to undertake outdoor explorations and even expeditions. These activities need trained professionals, and the employment vacancies are growing. Key Jobs within the sector include: Climbing instructor Sailing instructor Outdoor pursuits manager Water-sports instructor Canoe instructor Sport and exercise science Careers within sport and exercise science are all about the application of scientific reminisces to the promotion, maintenance and enhancement of sport. Sports Science has a become a popular course to undertake at under-graduate and post-graduate level, and with the increased need for sport and exercise scientists, the demand for trained professionals has increased. Key Jobs within the sector include: Sport bio-mechanist Sport dietician Exercise physiologist Sport psychologist General sport medicine Clinical cardiac physiologist GAP referral exercise consultant Who are the providers of sport and recreation? People who take part in sport and recreation do so because a wide range of sources, services and facilities are provided by a multitude of different providers. These different providers are needed because a range of facilities are needed. These could be indoor and outdoor facilities, or dry land or water. The providers offer services to try and meet a diverse range of needs and demands from individuals, families, clubs, groups and community users. The providers of sport and recreation services come from within the public, voluntary and commercial sectors. The reason why all these institutions have become involved in sport and recreation is the increased pressure placed on the sector. Indeed, in some areas of the sport and recreation sector organizations have been forced to pool their capital and resources and enter into partnerships in order to successfully provide a service. The sectors do try and offer different services and provisions, but is clear that there is over-lap between the public, voluntary and commercial sectors. They have had to increasingly become dependent on each other. Although they have different viewpoints, objectives and approaches, if the learner is to gain a work-based experience it is important that the distinction between the providers is understood. C Public sector The public sector is a major provider of sport and recreation facilities and services within the I-J. Public sector sport and recreation organizations are largely funded by local government, and will also have a huge influence as to the level of service and facilities they provide. Local government provides a huge range of facilities to which the public has access, at no direct cost. These facilities include urban parks, playgrounds, libraries, picnic areas, nature trails, beeches and country parks. Local government also provides facilities such as swimming pools, playing fields, golf rouses, sports centers, athletic tracks, art centers and museums where there is a direct charge to the user. However, it should be understood that these charges are usually highly subsidized. The public sector is really important to the sports sector as a whole as it is usually the enabler between all the sectors, especially when a partnership is developed. Below is a list of facilities and provision that would be lost if the public sector ceased funding sport and recreation within the UK: There would be no urban recreational land (playing fields, football pitches, cricket pitches etc. As they would be sold for more profitable ventures like supermarkets and housing Swimming pools would be closed as these are not commercially viable. Only fun pools would be left which would be expensive to use and offer little benefit in terms health and fitness Sport and recreation facilities would only offer profitable sessions. These facilities would fill up with 5-a-side football sessions as these make money. Sports like badminton would be marginals Access to the countryside would be restricted as there would be no one to maintain the paths Museums and art allergies would close, or offer art displays that only the very rich could afford to see Arts like opera, ballet and the symphony would disappear as these are not commercially viable. They may gain sponsorship from large firms, but access to these events would be greatly restricted There is no danger of the public pulling out of sport and recreation. However it should be noted that funding for local government has fallen and sport and recreation departments have suffered. This short fall in provision is being taken up by the voluntary and private sectors. The diagram on the low gives some examples of the types of facilities. The private sector The major difference between a private organization and a public or voluntary organization is that the primary objective of the private organization is financial profit, or to make a return on its investment. The voluntary and public sectors do not seek to make a profit; they are established, built and run for other reasons. The private sector does not have any real interest in providing sport and leisure provision; it is only really interested in making that all important profit. It is trying to exploit peoples Willingness to pay for sport and recreation provision, by providing facilities that the voluntary and public sectors cannot afford to deliver. This usually means that private sector provision is provided for people at the higher end of financial earnings. Listed below are some strengths and weaknesses of the private sector: Straightforwardnesss can quickly identify and respond to peoples demands It focuses on the consumer There is quite a wide range of provision It is marketed in a more professional manner It provides mass provision and does not cater for specialist provision The market determines the prices Not everyone can afford it Minority groups will always get neglected Listed below are some examples of the types of provision the private sector provides: Pubs, bars and restaurants Betting and gambling Multi-leisure parks Night clubs Ten-pin bowling Cinemas Childrens indoor play centers Hotels Holiday centers Health and fitness centers Theme parks Professional sport Tourism Transport airlines The voluntary sector The voluntary sector within sport is actually quite difficult to define. It is self organized, informal and usually run by people who give up their spare time for free. All the sports clubs that operate within this sector have to raise their own sources of finance, but they can also receive government grants or lottery funding. Listed below are some examples of sport and leisure organizations that operate within the voluntary sector: Badminton clubs Amateur football clubs Village cricket teams The Boy Scouts The Girl Guides This sector is primarily concerned with grass roots participation, and rarely gets involved with elite or professional athletes. The vast majority of provision is provided through local community groups, providing access to sport for people in villages, owns and communities. Probably the most important thing about the voluntary sector is that it operates outside of politics, and operates its own agenda. Listed below are some of the benefits of the voluntary sector: Provides facilities and coaching for everyone within local communities Usually cheaper for people to participate in sport and leisure Can apply for grants and lottery funding Fills the gaps left behind by the public and private sectors Involves local people meeting the needs of their own community Partnerships It clear that the different providers have different aims and objectives, but as overspent funding falls the sectors are becoming increasingly dependent on each other to survive. Partnerships are becoming more and more popular within the sectors, usually between two or more providers, which usually lead to a result that could not be achieved otherwise. Dual use and Joint provision are Just a few examples of how partnerships have been used to provide sport and recreation. Dual use is seen as long-term, regular use of a facility by the general public. This facility is funded by the public sector however, the general public who use the facility are not the people for whom the facility was intended. The most common example of this is where schools let the public use their facilities when they are not being used by the school itself. Sports halls and swimming pools are common examples of this dual use policy. This type of provision usually involves some kind of liaison between the local government, local voluntary organizations and the local education authority. Joint provision is where two bodies have equally access to the facility. So for example a school has a sports hall, where the general public can use at any time of the day or night, then this is called Joint provision. Opportunities in health and fitness, sport and recreation and the outdoors There is a wide variety of possibilities in terms of getting a work-based experience in sport. This section will only give a brief overview of four different Jobs within all of the sectors. What careers are there out there? Health and fitness Physical activity development manager This post can cover a wide variety of roles responsibilities, but generally speaking it will involve the individual working in partnership with a range of organizations to develop the physical activity agenda within communities. One of the fundamental oleos of this post is to try and encourage organizations to adopt physical activity policies. Because of the wide scope of this post it means working with organizations in the health, sport, environment, transport, education, regeneration and many other areas to get the Job done. The overarching aim of this post is to try and encourage all organizations to build physical activity into their planning by emphasizing the potential gains for each individual organization. Tasks that may be part of the Job description include:- Securing funding Developing new projects Project management Research and evaluation Liaison between partners Requirements Potential employers look for people from a wide range of work experience, which includes sport, physical activity and sport development. A higher level qualification is desirable, but not always essential. Skills that a potential employee should have include: Staff management Being very organized Excellent communication Presentations skills Employers and pay This type of post, even within the field of sport, is relatively new so it is difficult to give a direct answer. Principal employers include Local Authorities and Primary Care Trusts. The post may also include involvement with other agencies, such as the Countryside Commission (Walking Coordinator) and the British Heart Foundation (Cycling Coordinator). Sport England also has area of employment within the physical activity development area, including regional development posts. There is no definitive starting salary, but salaries usually vary between EYE,OHO EYE,OHO. Sport and recreation PEE teacher Depending on the courses and qualifications sports science learners complete, they can teach on a range of qualifications in primary, secondary schools or in further and higher education. A teacher who specializes in physical education (PEE) will concentrate on the delivery of both practical and theoretically based physical education lessons. These need to be tailor made to the individual learner, irrespective of ability. A PEE teacher needs to be aware that he/she will probably have extra curricular activities, such as managing the schools sports teams. He/she may also have other school responsibilities which may include class and tutoring duties. Schools will require that you have studied a relevant undergraduate course which enables the individual to teach (B De in Physical Education), or completed a relevant undergraduate course and also completed a relevant teaching qualification (PACE). Schools may also ask for some teaching experience, which should be gained through a placement on the undergraduate courses completed. Further education colleges will ask also for a teaching qualification (7301 Stage 1 as a minimum) but also be looking for sports coaching experience. The gaining of relevant sports coaching qualifications would also be of benefit. Universities would expect potential employees to have at least completed a post graduate qualification in Sport. They may not however, ask for a teaching qualification. Employers and pay Typical employers are: Primary schools Secondary schools Further education colleges Sixth form colleges Universities The starting salary for a newly qualified teacher is about EYE,OHO. A college lecturer within their first teaching post would expect to get in the region of EYE,OHO. A university lecturer within their first lecturing would get in the region of EYE,OHO. These salaries are dependent on qualifications and experience, but most of these professions offer progression through the main pay scale. Outdoor education The outdoor pursuits manager runs facilities that are used for the delivery of outdoor eased activities. These activities may include climbing, mountaineering, water-sports and orienteering. He/she will not only be responsible for the facility but also the management and supervision of staff. The outdoor pursuits manager has become more educational, particularly as schools, college and universities make use of these facilities. The manager will also have to supervise and manage users with specialized needs including people with special needs and even young offenders. The manager may also have to cater for corporate groups who would expect a high level of customer service. Requirements Potential employees will be looking for skills experience and qualifications within at least one outdoor pursuits area. The more qualifications that you have the better, as this will give you the ability to teach different areas of outdoor pursuits. You will need practical experience, along with a qualification from a recognized governing body. Applicants must also demonstrate that they have a strong interest in not only outdoor pursuits, but the countryside in general. Employers and pay Local authorities Private organizations At a local authority centre, a managers starting salary would be between EYE,OHO EYE,OHO. An instructor can earn anything from under EIA,OHO to around EYE,OHO, depending on experience and skills. Hours can be very long because of the residential nature of the work. You often need to be available 24 hours a day, so getting away from your work is not always possible. Sport and exercise science Sports dietician Sports dieticians usually go through the process of becoming qualified dieticians, and then undergo further training to make their knowledge and understanding more sports specific. The qualification is governed by the British Dietetic Association (BAD) ND sports dieticians have to undergo re-accreditation every five years. The vast majority of sport dieticians are self employed, and work on a consultancy basis. Only a few organizations will require the services of a sports dietician on a full-time basis. This allows the work of the sport dietician to be varied ranging from working with individuals and groups, and liaising with caterers for recipe development. Sport dieticians are using their knowledge and understanding to help sports performers in achieving their potential through modifying their diet and eating habits. Potential sport dieticians have to be accredited as sports dieticians after successfully completing a BAD validated course. The profession is highly regulated, and individuals will have to undertake a process of individual professional development to ensure their skills and knowledge are of the highest order. Employers and pay Opportunities do exist with sport governing bodies, professional sport organizations and sport institutions. Opportunities may also exist with catering firms and food companies. It is difficult to say how much a sports dietician will earn as most are self employed, and salaries will vary greatly. A sport dietician working for English Institute for Sport would earn in the region of EYE,OHO EYE,OHO. Considerations of a work- based experience in sport How to find a work placement Most learners who undertake a work-based experience usually have three underlining reasons to continue to their education, to use their work-based experience as a trial period or to gain management experience. Generally the learner will be responsible for searching, screening and selecting his/her work-based experience. It is important that when the searching for work-based experiences nominees the lecturer supervising the module takes an active and supportive role during the search and selection stage. The benefits and disadvantages of the learner being in charge of the entire procedure is printed below: Benefits of learner leading prestidigitations of learner leading the preadolescence is usually highly motivated It actually helps the learner prepare for employment Learner can conduct in-depth research on a particular employer they are interested in Learners can discuss their work-based experience with their peers Learners can conduct a skills matching procedure with potential employer Learners may be able o negotiate a better placement than the lecturer in charge Learners search for a work-based experience may be based on convenience The learner may miss potential opportunities The search may be influenced by friends and family Decision for work-based experience may be solely based on getting paid Learner may have unrealistic expectations Learners may not be able to Judge expenses accurately Where to look for a placement Probably the most difficult steps are actually starting to look for a work placement and more importantly knowing where to look. Here are some ideas as to where to tart looking:- Go to the careers office in the College. It will have a variety of books and leaflets on how to find a work placement. If that fails speak to the careers officer Newspapers all have Jobs sections. Local newspapers will have a Jobs paper on a certain night, as will national newspapers. Newspapers are also good for getting contact information about companies There are also dedicated websites designed to help people find a work placement. Log onto www. Prospects. AC. UK and follow the links to the National Council for Work Experience page Professional bodies are also a good source of work placements. They are likely to produce a Journal that usually advertises Jobs from the sector. For example the Institute for Sport and Recreation Management publishes The Recreation Journal which has Jobs in the sports sector Careers and Connections centers Job Centers Magazines Recruitment agencies Newsgroups Listed below are some websites that will help you find a work-based experience in the area that you are interest. Sport and Reconciliation and Fitness. Illustriousnesss. Co. UK www. Supplementation. Org. UK www. Sportsperson. Org. UK www. These. Co. UK www. ]biathlons. Com www. Leisure]bobs. Co. UK www. Sewing. O. UK www. Involvement. Com mm. . Sported. Net www. Affective. Org. UK Considerations to take into account Location When deciding on where to do their work-based experience, learners need to take into account the location of a potential work-based experience. When deciding how far to travel they will have to consider the following:- Do you want to stay at home? This may limit your opportunities, but will be cheaper Moving away from home may increase your opportunities, but will also cost more money If you have to move do you have any friends or relatives you could stay with to keep the costs down? Do you have a car? If not what is the public transport like to get to the placement? The final decision will probably be based on what you want to achieve from the placement and how long you are willing to spend within the placement. Cost will be a factor, but look at the whole picture (benefits/weaknesses of the placement) before deciding. Hours It is important that learners are aware that the vast majority of people who work in the sport and recreation industry, work unsocial hours. The main reason for this is that the learner will have to work when other people are free, which is usually first hint in the morning, last thing at night and at the weekends. Learners should also be aware they maybe asked to work a Rota-system which will have an impact on their social life. It will also mean that they will have to plan their studies around their work commitments. Regulations Even though learners are only on their work placement for a limited amount of time, they are still protected by employment law. Nearly every part of the Job they undertake during the work-based experience will have rules and regulations that the learner must follow. The learner should expect from their employer: Some kind of contract/Job description that explains what is expected of them, and what is entitled to them The learner should be given some idea of working hours If there is a problem during the placement, the learner should inform their tutor immediately The learners should be aware that because they are under 18, they have additional regulations that they have to follow due to their age. These include: If the learner is over 18 they only have to work a maximum of a 48-hour working week. If the learner is under 18, still at school and working there are some legal restrictions on their hours. They are not allowed to: -Work before am or after pm Work for more than two hours on a school day or for more than one hour before school Work for more than eight hours on Saturdays or holidays, or two hours on Sundays Work for more than 35 hours a week during the holidays Also the employer is bound by Equal Opportunity legislation. Again if the learner feels that the employer is acting in an inappropriate manner, he/she should inform his/her tutor immediately. It doesnt matter what your sex, race, religion, sexual orientation or disability is, the employer should always treat you equally and with aspect. Some of the facts of the legislation include: All employers have to operate an equal opportunities policy its the law. Equal opportunities start with recruitment and cover the treatment of all employees Everyone has the same rights, regardless of gender, ethnic and religious background, sexuality and disability Health and safety There are two parts to the health and safety process that learners need to be aware of. Firstly the College has a duty to the learner and should ensure that he/she is not in a work-based experience that may expose him/her to health and safety risks. The second part of the health and safety process lies with employers. They are bound under health and safety law to conduct a risk assessment of the learner within the new work place. They will have to look at the work the learner will be undertaking, and weigh up whether they have enough safety precautions in place, or they should do more to prevent harm. The employer will need to take into account the following: The placement provider must comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act The employer needs to take into account that the learner is likely to be inexperienced, unaware of health and safety risks and physically or mentally immature Put in place measures to control the risks which will reduce them entirely, or reduce them to the lowest possible level. The employer needs to keep a record of the risk assessment and record the control measures put in place The placement provider must comply with any restrictions or prohibitions on work for young people One of the learners key responsibilities during their placement is their duties under health and safety. The learners duties include: To take reasonable care of their own health and safety To take reasonable care not to put other people fellow employees and members of the public at risk by what they do or dont do in the course of their work To co- operate with their employer, making sure they get proper training Not to interfere with or misuse anything thats been provided for their health, safety or welfare To report any injuries, strains or illnesses they suffer as a result of doing their Job To tell their employer if something happens that might affect their ability to work Roles and responsibilities The roles and responsibilities of the learners work based experience, as outlined on heir Job description, will set out their key tasks and services they will have to perform whilst they are undertaking the work based experience.

Genre Definition and Examples in Literature
Genre Definition and Examples in Literature In literature, every piece of writing falls under a general category, also known as a genre. We experience genres is other parts of our daily lives, such as movies and music, and in each case, the individual genres typically have distinctive styles in terms of how they are composed. At the most basic level, there are essentially three main genres for literature - poetry, prose and drama - and each can be broken down even further, resulting in dozens of subgenres for each.à Some resources will cite only two genres: fiction and non-fiction, though many classics will argue that fiction and non-fiction can, and do, both fall under poetry, drama or prose.à à While there is much debate over what constitutes a genre in literature, for the purposes of this article, we will break down the classic three. From there, we will outline some of the subgenres for each, including those that some believe should be classified as main genres. Poetry Poetry is a style of writing that tends to be written in verses, and typically employs a rhythmic and measured approach to composition. It characteristically is known for evoking emotional responses from readers through its melodic tone and use of creative language that is often imaginative and symbolic in nature. The word ââ¬Å"poetryâ⬠comes from the Greek word ââ¬Å"poiesisâ⬠which essentially means, making, which is translated into the making of poetry. Poetry is typically divided into two main subgenres, narrative and lyric, which each have additional types that fall under their respective umbrellas. For example, narrative poetry includes ballads and epic tales, while lyric poetry includes sonnets, psalms and even folk songs. Poetry can be fiction or nonfiction. Prose Prose is essentially identified as written text that aligns with the flow of conversation in sentence and paragraph form, as opposed to verses and stanzas in poetry. Writing of prose employs common grammatical structure and a natural flow of speech, not a specific tempo or rhythm as is seen in traditional poetry. Prose as a genre can be broken down into a number of subgenres including both fiction and nons of prose can range from news, biographies and essays to novels, short stories, plays and fables. The subject matter, if it is fiction versus nonfiction and length of the work, are not taken into consideration when classifying it as prose, but rather the style of writing that is conversational is what lands works in this genre. Drama Drama is defined as theatrical dialogue that is performed on stage and traditionally is comprised of five acts. It is generally broken down into four subgenres including comedy, melodrama, tragedy and farce. In many cases, dramas will actually overlap with poetry and prose, depending on the writing style of the author. Some dramatic pieces are written in a poetic style, while others employ a more casual writing style seen in prose, to better relate to the audience. Like both poetry and prose, dramas can be fiction or nonfiction, though most are fictional or inspired by real life, but not completely accurate. The Genre and Subgenre Debate Beyond these three basic genres, if you conduct an online search for ââ¬Å"genres of literature,â⬠you will find dozens of conflicting reports that claim any number of main genres that exist. There is often debate over what constitutes genre, but in most cases, there is a misunderstanding of the difference between genre and subject matter. Itââ¬â¢s common for subject matter to be considered a genre in not only literature, but also in movies and even games, both of which are often based on or inspired by books. These subjects can include biography, business, fiction, history, mystery, comedy, romance and thrillers. Subjects may also include cooking, self help, diet and fitness, religion and many many more.à à Subjects and subgenres, however, can often be intermixed. Though, it can beà a challenge to determine how many subgenres or subjects actually exist, as there are differing opinions on each, and new ones are created regularly. For example, young adult writing has become increasingly popular, and some would classify it as a subgenre of prose. The difference between genre and subject is often blurred by the world around us. Think of a time when you last visited a bookstore or library. Most likely, the books were divided into sections - fiction and non-fiction for sure - and further categorized based on the type of books, such as self-help, historic, science fiction and others. Many people assume that these categorizations of subject matter are genre, and as a result, common language today has adopted a casual use of genre to mean subject.

Nursing Theory Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Nursing Theory - Research Paper Example This partnership has an aim of enabling patients better manage and control the disease. If properly administered and adhered to by both parties, the partnership helps reduce social, economic, physical and psychological effects of chronic illness (Fowler, Kirschner, Van Kuiken and Baas, 2007). In the 21st century, the needs of patients, more so those with chronic illness, continue to draw attention from researchers. The nature of chronic diseases is that they last for a long period of time, developing slowly but surely. Since the majority of the illnesses have no cure, it becomes difficult to predict effects in the long-term. However, with medication some of the symptoms and problems can be tackled. On the contrary some patients find themselves severely affected by the disease. Diseases such as diabetes, depression arthritis, and hypertension may limit individualsââ¬â¢ daily activities. As much as these chronic conditions might have clinical differences, needs arising from the illnesses are similar for patients and their families. For instance it is important to have behavioral changes, emotional and social impacts of symptoms, disabilities, approaching death must be dealt with. The patient must endeavor to take medicines consistently and continue to interact with medi cal care (Marquis and Huston, 2009). On the other hand it is the duty of health care practitioners to ensure patients are better informed and allowed access to the best treatment. In this way the patients will be able to effectively manage their health and death. This goal cannot be realized without effective leadership and management skills by the nurses. Apart from the skills which as vital for the nursing practice, the recovery process can be fostered by good leadership skills by the nurse (Stanley, 2008). One area where the skill can be applied is in influencing legislation and health care policy. Though the level of power of the nurse cannot be compared

Dilemma in business communication Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Dilemma in business communication - Essay Example The new employment opportunity could improve the issue that the employee has and at the same time challenge him to be the best. If I tell the truth about the employeeââ¬â¢s drinking problem, the employer will be able to know what kind of employee they are taking in and will be in a position to curtail him to live up to the standards of the organization. However, this would diminish the employees chances of being employed. My rationale behind hiding the truth from the employer will be based on the fact that by searching for a new employment opportunity, the employee has changed positively and realized that sticking to a companyââ¬â¢s policies and values is a requisite. My choice will also give the employee a new chance to grow career wise (Snoeyenbos, Almeder & Humber, 2001). Although it is in the best interest of companies to hire efficient employees, people with ethical issues should also be given chances to improve. This can be done through training, formulation of company policies which encourages ethical values at the workplace and having the managers in the forefront in the elimination of unethical

Three Day Diet Analysis Essay Example for Free
Three Day Diet Analysis Essay There will be two term exams, a final exam and one written assignment for this course. In addition to the three written exams, you will be required to carry out a 3 day diet analysis of you own diet. Details of this are provided below, but briefly, you will be required to record everything you eat for three days. Your nutrient intake will then be determined using a computer program ââ¬Å"Diet Analysis + 8â⬠which will be available on computers in Science SN 3000 for all students. If you bought a new copy of the text this year, you can access a web version of the software (access information is provided with the text). You will then be required to write an evaluation of your diet, discussing its strengths and weaknesses and what you might do to improve it.. Both the computer analysis and the evaluation must be turned in. This diet analysis will count for 10% of your course mark. The analysis is due on Friday March 9 in class. Analyses not turned in when due will have their mark reduced by one-half. That is, they will count for only a maximum of 5% of the course mark. Assignments not turned in by the last class of the semester will receive a mark of 0 (zero). Summary of Evaluation: Due DateValue Term Exam 1Fri Feb 820% Term Exam 2Fri Mar 1520% Final ExamDuring Final Exam Period50% Diet Analysis (10%)Fri, Mar 810% Total100% Policy on missed exams: Marks from missed exams, regardless of reason, will be applied to the final exam. This applies to all students. All students have the option of not writing one or both of the term exams. If you miss one term exam, the final exam will be worth 70%, if you miss both term exams the final exam will be worth 90%. Supplementary Exam: A student who has clear or conditional standing may write a supplementary examination in Biochemistry/Kinesiology 2600 if the course grade obtained is 45-49 F and if his or her term mark is at least 50%. Students who wish to write a supplementary exam must apply in writing to the Biochemistry Department within one week of release of grades. Diet Analysis You are to record all the food you eat for three consecutive days, one of which must be a weekend day. That is you must record what you eat for Thursday, Friday and Saturday or Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Be sure to record portion sizes as well as what you ate. You will need to have a labnet account in order to print out your analysis. If you do not have one be sure to set it up before starting your data entry. Using the diet analysis+ software you are to analyze your intake for the three days. You can access this software in the Biochemistry Department Computer Lab, SN 3000 OR if you bought a new copy of the text this year, you can access a web version of the software (access information is provided with the text). You can also purchase access to the online version of the software. See the textbook information files on the D2L site. When you use the diet analysis software, you should store your data on the H drive or on a memory stick. If you do not, if you return to the computer you used, your data will not be there and you will have to start the data entry process again. By saving to the H drive or a memory stick, you can enter your data in pieces rather that all at once and you can easily go back to edit any mistakes. To do this, insert the memory stick in the computer before starting the program. It is important that you enter your personal profile information BEFORE you enter foods. If you do not you will have to re-enter the foods after you create your personal profile. Then you must evaluate your diet based on your intake relative to recommended intakes for all nutrients for which you believe your intake is high enough or low enough relative to the RDA that you need to do something about it. Note that your intakes may be more than recommended, equal to the recommended or less than the recommended. Your evaluation must include your evaluation of the adequacy of your diet. Once you have evaluated your diet, you should suggest what, specifically, you would do to correct any problems with your diet, that is what foods need to be replaced and with what. Note that your evaluation should be based on your average intake for the three days, not based on any one dayââ¬â¢s intake. When you turn in your assignment it must include: 1. the list of foods and amounts eaten for each day from the printout, 3 lists, one for each day 2. The computer evaluation of your diet. That is the printouts that show the percentage of recommended intakes for the 3 day average intake, not for each individual dayââ¬â¢s intake. 3. Abortion: Women Need a Choice :: Argumentative
Our Nation was built on the ideas of freedom and independence. With that concept, I believe that our government needs to trust that women have the capability to choose what is best for their future. Our society should respect womenââ¬â¢s independence and grant them the freedom to decide what is right. This issue is important to me because history has shown that restricting abortions, not only undermines women, but can also be very dangerous. à à à à à I believe that the government should not be able to control what a woman does with her body. By granting women the right to choose, this does not permit her to kill, but to decide what is best for all persons involved. There are many situations that show that abortion may be the best for the parents and the unborn child. Situations such as rape or incest prove that it is not the womanââ¬â¢s fault and not fair to the mother or the unborn child to pay for it. There are other situations such as if the mother carries a disease the can be passed on, or if the parents are unfit to raise a family at the time. Any case however, should be between the people involved and not the government. à à à à à In the past, there have been many cases when abortions were restricted, and women went ahead to find other ways to get it done. They were forced to have it done in unsafe alleys by complete strangers. By legalizing abortions, it has made conditions much safer for women. I think mentally, it has strengthened women in many ways; they can now confront their problems and have options to choose from, and not have to hide their mistakes.

New Belgium Case Analysis
Introduction The New Belgium Brewing Company is one of the top three craft beer breweries in the nation. It has experienced solid growth from its original entry as a niche marketer to a brand that is now distributed across the country. Much of New Belgiumââ¬â¢s success is a result of a well-developed positioning strategy that promotes the companyââ¬â¢s culture as much as its product. Not coincidentally, New Belgiumââ¬â¢s target market chooses brands like Fat Tire because of both the companyââ¬â¢s culture and its product. Our evaluation of the two New Belgium cases indicates that the craft beer industry remains an attractive investment for the company, particularly because of its specific capabilities and resources. The cases also suggest that a conservative growth outlook has the greatest probability of maintaining an acceptable level of profitability without sacrificing the companyââ¬â¢s mission and core values. Finally, New Belgiumââ¬â¢s positioning, particularly as itââ¬â¢s exemplified by the Fat Tire campaign, is a sustainable one for both current and future brands, though deliberate adaptations will be necessary as New Belgium expands into new markets SWOT Analysis Strengths (New Belgium)| Weaknesses (New Belgium)| High-quality beer, award-winning beers| Association with a single line of beer- Fat Tire| 7th Largest brewery in the nation, 3rd largest craft brewery| Increased pressure on maintaining company culture as a result of company growth| Strong growth with est. ales of over $100B and sales of over 700K barrels of beer| Continued reliance on natural gas and fossil fuels- non-renewable resources| $10M advertising budget for Fat Tire campaign| No follow-up of successful Fat-Tire ad campaign| Collaboration with Elysian Brewing Company| Increasing distribution distances| Customer Loyalty| Competition from craft brewers and craft beers from traditional brewers| Effective word-of-mouth advertising| Smaller advertising budget ($10M) than c ompetition (Sam Adams $35M)| Strong product association (Fat Tire Brewery)| One of the founders no longer with NBB| Social media presence: Facebook (300K; $50. New Belgium is, however, the third-largest craft brewery in the nation, with estimated sales of over $100 million, equaling approximately 700,000 barrels of beer per year. An analysis of the craft beer industry as a whole suggests that there is continued growth potential for New Belgium.Exhibit 5. 1 of the New Belgium Brewing (B) case shows that craft beer is the fastest growing segment of the U. S. alcoholic beverage market, with an increase in market share of over 100 percent from 1999-2011. It is also an industry whose customers tend to be extremely loyal, making them less likely to view craft beer as a commodity. Consequently, craft beer has a higher probability of being immune to competition from inferior goods and substitutes. This is particularly applicable to New Belgiumââ¬â¢s target market of ââ¬Å"beer connoisseursâ⬠that appreciate the high quality and taste of craft beer and who include ââ¬Å"executives, lawyers, and accountantsâ⬠with the continued ability to pay higher prices for craft beer, enabling the craft beer industry to achieve gross margins of up to 30 percent (Clark & Rogler, 2013). Four other strengths of New Belgium indicate continued growth in the craft beer industry. First, studies have shown that companies who sincerely promote ethical, social, and environmental responsibility outperform those on the S&P 500.New Belgium has been such a company from the very start. Second, they have exploited social media as an inexpensive advertising platform, with their Facebook presence alone accounting for over $50 million in annual sales. Third, New Belgium has shown that they can succeed in tr aditional television advertising as well with their Fat Tire campaign that produced an extremely successful positioning strategy resulting in significant sales increases. Fourth, New Belgium continues to look for ways to innovate, like their partnership with Elysian Brewing Company that could lead to greater efficiency and support new product development.New Belgium is a company that has received awards for their beer, for their ethics, for their employee care, and for their stewardship of the environment, all the while maintaining strong financial growth and market share. There is nothing to suggest that New Belgium cannot continue to succeed in the craft beer industry. New Belgiumââ¬â¢s Growth Outlook New Belgiumââ¬â¢s success to date in the industry has been a result of a conservative approach to growing their business- a ââ¬Å"go slow to go fastâ⬠strategy. We believe it should continue to be conservative in its outlook on growth.New Belgium Brewing is a growing comp any, best exemplified by plans to open a second brewery in Asheville, North Carolina, in order to reach new markets on the east coast. This expansion, however, is creating pressure on the companyââ¬â¢s commitment to sustainability. Even though the new plant will reduce the fuel necessary for east coast distribution, it still will result in an increase in the overall use of fossil fuels and non-renewable resources from current levels, not just with transportation but with production as well. In addition, the increased production will necessarily mean an increase in environmental waste by-products.An aggressive outlook on growth with a mindset of ââ¬Å"grow, grow, growâ⬠would further jeopardize the companyââ¬â¢s ability to maintain sustainability efforts, which would not be consistent with New Belgiumââ¬â¢s way of operating. New Belgium Brewing embraces a ââ¬Å"triple bottom lineâ⬠approach to business that factors economic, social, and environmental consideratio ns into its business strategy rather than simply looking at the bottom line. We believe that this has been critical in developing a strong brand preference through customer trust.New Belgiumââ¬â¢s own study indicates the ââ¬Å"39 percent of beer consumers will make extra efforts to buy from and support sustainable companies,â⬠while outside studies suggest that a significant number of consumers support businesses that demonstrate sustainable practices. Going ââ¬Å"fastâ⬠with an aggressive growth outlook would likely alienate New Belgiumââ¬â¢s customer base and would violate every one of New Belgiumââ¬â¢s Sustainable Branding Strategy principles, from ââ¬Å"walk before talkâ⬠(living up to sustainability claims) to ââ¬Å"make ripplesâ⬠(convincing the customer that advertisements promote the brand and the culture behind it).In addition, an aggressive growth outlook would be contrary to some of New Belgiumââ¬â¢s core values and beliefs, particularl y those that address environmental stewardship and commitment to trust through fulfilling promises. No one should doubt that New Belgium is in the business to ââ¬Å"operate a profitable breweryâ⬠as its mission statement makes clear, but not at the expense of the other two bottom lines. For New Belgium Brewing Company, slow and steady leads the way. Fat Tire Positioning As noted above, New Belgiumââ¬â¢s positioning of its Fat Tire brand was a success.Clancy (2001) defines positioning as ââ¬Å"the message a company wants to imprint on the minds of customer and prospects about its productâ⬠¦and how it differs from and offers something better than competitorsâ⬠(p. 1). In the case of Fat Tire, its positioning mirrored the companyââ¬â¢s culture ââ¬Å"where a highly creative activityâ⬠¦is pursued for the intrinsic value of doing it, as well as perfromed in a balanced manner with nature. â⬠The message was about pursuing oneââ¬â¢s interests (folly) but n ot in a way that reflectââ¬â¢s self-interest alone.Itââ¬â¢s a message about recycling (restoring the bike), about caring for the environment (riding instead of driving), about relationships (the road biker and the tinkerer riding uphill together), and about the simple joy of simple things. Itââ¬â¢s about good beer made by a literally ââ¬Å"goodâ⬠company. Compare this approach with the positioning of the largest craft brewer, Sam Adams, whose ads have ââ¬Å"morphed into television spots that [look] more and more like the position of Americaââ¬â¢s Big Three brewers. The Fat Tire ad, on the other hand, cleary demonstrates that New Belgium is different than itââ¬â¢s competitors in the culture behind the beer, and thatââ¬â¢s what New Belgium is after- the market who not only wants high quality, excellent craft beer but who also wants to be associated with a high quality company behind it. The Fat Tire campaign produced increased sales of 37 percent in test marke ts, and New Belgiumââ¬â¢s sales force was able to leverage this success by convincing transactional customers to promote New Belgiumââ¬â¢s secondary brands, increasing these sales by over 50 percent (Holt & Cameron, 2010).Given the results of the Fat Tire campaign, we recommend a continuation of the current positioning. Through Fat Tire, New Belgium has been able to differentiate itself in the craft beer industry by producing strong products that are well received by their target customers who are, or who see themselves as, smart, creative, athletic, environmentally conscious, and socially engaged. Target Markets The target consumer customer marketing strategy for the Fat Tire campaign focuses on the market concentration approach of selecting a single market segment and then identifying shared segmentation factors. For example, the campaign targets ââ¬Å"high-endâ⬠(psychographic, behavioral) male beer drinkers ages 25-44 (demographic) who are mostly white-collar professi onals (demographic) who vacation in Colorado (geographic) for a taste of the mountain lifestyle (psychographic). This market longs for the life of the tinkerer (psychographic) but believe that they are unable to sacrifice their current circumstances in order to obtain it (psychographic). They can, however, make a connection to that life and to others in similar situations (psychographic, association/affinity) by drinking Fat Tire (behavioral). The transactional customer, on the other hand, is likely to be the local liquor store or grocer rather than supermarket or large retail discount center. For one, such distributors are more apt to carry craft beers because of their higher price and lower sales volume. More importantly, it is more probable that they are susceptible to local demands to carry New Belgium beers, the kind that result from the example noted by the case where a local Minnesota liquor store sold 400 cases of Fat Tire with the first hour of opening.Recommendations for th e Future Looking toward the future, the cases note that New Belgium has no plans to undertake another major television ad campaign similar to Fat Tire. We recommend that they reconsider this position, particularly as they move into the east coast market and open their Asheville brewery. Taking a pure aggregation approach by replicating current strategy there will probably not produce the success to which New Belgium has become accustomed.Having recently studied the early failures of Disney in Europe due to a lack of adaptation, we suggest a television ad campaign modeled after a listening tour, perhaps where the tinkerer and his single-speed bike tours the Carolinas, finding compatriots along the way. The tagline could be, ââ¬Å"Beer is our folly. Whatââ¬â¢s yours? â⬠The television ads would promote contact with New Belgium via social media, and local events would be sponsored to share New Belgium beer and culture with the east coast market, as well as to learn more about their new target market.Based upon what New Belgium learns, we also recommend developing a new craft beer specifically for the east coast market, fulfilling the transformational innovation activities of the Innovation Ambition Matrix (Limacher, 2012). We envision this campaign then developing television spots that show the tinkerer traveling through locations from the Maine coast to the Key West, with quick images of him restoring old junked treasures that represent the follies he previously learned about- a wooden canoe, an Appalachian fiddle, or an antique Penn ocean reel- all the while promoting New Belgiumââ¬â¢s new brand. In addition to television ads, New Belgium would continue its established strategy of permission marketing using social media, which they have clearly established as having a strong correlation with annual sales. We project that if New Belgium follows this Sustainable Branding Strategy with an emphasis on adaptations to the new market, it will achieve succes s similar to the results from the Fat Tire campaign. Conclusion New Belgium is poised for significant growth because of the way that it has differentiated the company from other craft brewers.Despite a smaller advertising budget that larger competitors like Sam Adams, New Belgium has leveraged its advertising resources into developing a position that is distinctly different, which has created strong brand appeal among its target market. If New Belgium can maintain its original principles as it grows, we see a high likelihood that profits will follow. New Belgiumââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"single speedâ⬠is absolutely the right vehicle to transport the company into the future. References Clancy, K. 2001). Massively multiplayer online game Essay
Before computer games flourished through the past eras, patintero, sungka, tumbang-preso, tumba-lata, tagu-taguan and sipa were one of the most anticipated outdoor games inside our country. Experiencing these kinds of games imprints almost our half life and we canââ¬â¢t have a complete childhood experience without getting tapped hard on the back, been hit by a flying slipper for it missed the target, playing with shells, screaming and cheering over your teammates, jumping over a person and avoiding getting hit its body part, and hiding and camouflage in a place to prevent from being the ââ¬Ëitââ¬â¢ of the game. Try asking a child what was his favourite childhood experience, and would tell either scratched his knee from running away from his opponent or been scolded by mother because of going home late due to exceeding allotted time of playing outdoor games. And try asking a child from the present century what he has been doing lately, and might get an answer playing tekken with PSP, or Super Mario or Pacman with Nintendo or Xbox. Difference spotted? When a child is in the climax of playing and been taking the game seriously, he doesnââ¬â¢t want to be disturbed for in some instance might loose on his opponent and canââ¬â¢t advance to the next upgrades. A common reaction received by parents when they call their children to gather around while their kids were busy pressing on joysticks and keyboards and faces were just centimetres away from the screen would be ââ¬Å"Mom! Canââ¬â¢t you wait because Iââ¬â¢m already on my way to take down Bowser! â⬠And two probabilities might happen after: either the parents would start screaming and repeat on telling to set aside their loving gadgets or the children would get irritated on the booming loud voices and start stomping away and lock themselves in a room where they could continue praising themselves for they have defeated the ââ¬Ëbossââ¬â¢ in the game. With the help of advanced technological innovation that has spread around the globe, the beginning of 3D and multi-player online gaming (MMORPG) have surfaced and hooked children the most. Children fell into the gaming world, spending more time in virtual rather than in real, which sooner turns to be their life. Like, children must have a deviant childhood like these; playing computers during their free time and having fun with his co-gamers. They feel like they can play anytime any of the newest released games go on without ending, they continue forever, and they can pick up any character they wanted on the virtual world. If a child started to feel in contact more with gaming, he will spend more time in solitary seclusion. It is difficult for some adolescents (particularly male adolescents) who are vulnerable to the area of prone to video game addiction since it might be transparent to say how popular gaming is in children of all ages, which results to mostly negative results. A report like found in Elyria, Ohio, where a seventeen year-old boy named Daniel Petric shot his parents in the head after they confiscated his copy of ââ¬ËHalo 3. ââ¬Ë His mother was killed and his father wounded due to the gunshots, and the troubled teen fled the murder scene with solely one item in his possession: the ââ¬ËHalo 3ââ¬â¢ game (Ridgefield, 2009). A similar report flashed on television says that a child has accidentally killed his playmate, stabbed with a knife after playmate got a higher score on the game Flabby Bird and now been sent under the care of DSWD. Several reports similar to this have rang the ears of the mass since the effect of gaming has become more serious. It all started from playing innocently, never knew slowly by slowly they are being eaten with intoxication of gaming and now swallowed of gaming addiction. Results like killing have been a serious warning to those who are sensationally indulged in playing, but often just ignored. The video games are common to be blamed, which we neglect the fact that some might have done crimes since they are often being neglected by parents. Coming from a single-parent family isnââ¬â¢t a factor, but how a parent sees after his child while growing. Far from my knowledge, it is the duty of the parents to look after their kids when engaged into different aspects of real and virtual life. But most children dare to say that theyââ¬â¢ve been controlled over their life, treated like human robots; like told to eat properly, sleep on time, do school assignments and how to spend their time practically. But nobody commands them when they got the chance to get hold of gaming materials, because in there, they call themselves the ââ¬Å"Thug Lords of Gamingâ⬠. Fond to their name, with raging adrenaline rush cannot escape the virtual life. Restricting kids from playing wonââ¬â¢t help to drive the addiction either, for playing is part of our childhood. The more we drag them away, the more they rebel and really determined into getting along with playing. Personally speaking, life with no play is never fun. Who wouldnââ¬â¢t like to experience playing sipa, tumbang preso, luksong-baka and patintero? Who wouldnââ¬â¢t like to meet a childhood friend? None right? Those might not be similar to the games inside the computer world, but those are the basic foundation of gaming not until the late centuries where video games were invented. With increasing percentage of latter sides of gaming, some parents are over-protective over their kids to the extent that they lock their offsprings into a jail afar from their supposed fun childhood. They never had the chance to have ââ¬Ërealââ¬â¢ playmates. In some instance, a child who has this experience growing up gathering medals for their parents is the only thing instilled in their minds. On contrary, a child who spent more time in playing grows up quitting almost 70% of his social life. This might lead into several serious effects like having a psychological disorder due to excessive malfunction of the brain. And hereââ¬â¢s the tricky and dangerous part: they are the ââ¬Ëunhappy teenagersââ¬â¢ which later have a growing percentage in the globe. They have lost their confidence in communicating and lowered their self-esteem. Theyââ¬â¢ve spent all of their time interacting in a virtual world and are extremely uncomfortable when dealing with real people in real time. In order to retrieve the part of them which just got lost, they seek attention from others. Or a probability that they would drive all away from himself and just have a life with the unreal, which might lead to serious killing crimes like what weââ¬â¢ve been fearing to happen. Being a gamer isnââ¬â¢t dangerous. It is having a hard time kicking the habit whoââ¬â¢s the real enemy. It is not a dissatisfaction to play computer games, but be careful of getting addicted. Think twice before engaging wholly, for everything that is excessive can cause vicious effects, double the harm we think it would cause to us. We, as being the most users of techno-gaming, are the ones in charge of what might happen when we are drowned in the pool of virtual scenes. And as a gamer, too, playing has just been part of my life. It is just how we balance our time between real and virtual space. Even up to this extent, I would be happy if given a rest time and spending it playing with my favourite computer games and would even dare to challenge my siblings into a multi-player game once again. But my playtime has limits too, and Iââ¬â¢m the one who limits myself from the red line before stepping into it. References: Ridgefield, A. (2009). Video Game Addiction. Teen Ink.
